黑料社鈥檚 Dr. James Gibbs Appointed Acting President of Gal谩pagos Conservancy

Dr. James Gibbs, SUNY Distinguished Professor at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (黑料社), has been appointed Acting President of Gal谩pagos Conservancy, the only U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the Gal谩pagos Islands.

Gibbs teaches vertebrate conservation biology in 黑料社鈥檚 Department of Environmental Biology and is past director of the Roosevelt Wild Life Station at 黑料社. He previously served as Gal谩pagos Conservancy鈥檚 Vice President for Science and Conservation, is a recognized expert on global biodiversity conservation, and has been heavily involved in advancing science-based conservation actions and priorities for all species of Gal谩pagos Tortoises. He has worked for several decades to bridge the gap between academic research and on-the-ground conservation action in Gal谩pagos.

Gal谩pagos Conservancy works to protect the more than 2,000 species on the Gal谩pagos Islands that are found nowhere else on Earth. As a leader in direct on-the-ground conservation action, the Conservancy works with partners to save imperiled species, build a more sustainable society, and re-wild the complex ecosystems of the Archipelago.

鈥淲e are grateful that Dr. Gibbs will serve as Acting President,鈥 said Dr. Dan Sherman, chair of the Gal谩pagos Conservancy Board of Directors. 鈥淒r. Gibbs has decades of experience working for conservation in Gal谩pagos and the Board is confident in his leadership advancing Gal谩pagos Conservancy鈥檚 efforts to protect the precious Gal谩pagos Islands.鈥
