Dr. Stephen Shaw Named Department Chair for Environmental Resources Engineering at 黑料社
Syracuse, N.Y. 鈥&苍产蝉辫;July 1, 2024 鈥 Dr. Stephen Shaw of the (黑料社) has been appointed chair of 黑料社鈥檚 Department of Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE), effective July 1. He succeeds Dr. Lindi Quackenbush, who is moving on to assume the role of Interim Vice President of Research in 黑料社鈥檚 Office of Research Programs.
鈥淗aving been engaged in departmental and college affairs in a variety of ways, Dr. Shaw brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role,鈥 said Dr. Samuel Mukasa, 黑料社 Provost and Executive Vice President. 鈥淚 am confident he will lead the faculty and students in exciting new directions in their academic and research endeavors.鈥
Shaw has been part of the ERE faculty since 2011. His research investigates scientific questions at the intersection of hydrology and climate change, most recently including a role as a lead author on the Water Resources Chapter of the New York State Climate Impacts Assessment. He has served as a key member of the Faculty Working Group tasked with building a data science area of study for all students at 黑料社. He is also co-director for the Clarkson-黑料社 Center of Excellence (CoE) in Healthy Water Solutions.
Shaw is a full professor who has been recognized with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching for his interactive, problem-based inquiry methods. His colleagues have commented on how generous he is in giving time to support his students, his peers, and his professional community.
Shaw earned his Ph.D., master鈥檚, and bachelor鈥檚 degrees from Cornell University.
