Adding Third-Party Applications to 黑料社 Systems
Summary (what you get)
CNS actively facilitates the integration of third-party applications with 黑料社 systems. These applications may not be supported or licensed by IT Services. In most cases, the support and maintenance of the application are between the user(s) and the third-party vendor.
When you receive it
There is an approval process for all requests for addition to any 黑料社 system. Each application will be reviewed for security compliance and overall system stability. The approval process is based on levels of risk. When applicable, a vendor-specific risk assessment is conducted to capture details about the vendor and the sensitivity of the data to which the vendor will have access. This will be used to determine the risk factor.
Service Does Not Include
In most cases, support and maintenance of the application are between the user(s) and the third-party vendor.

Keep in mind that student, faculty, and course data can be put at risk if shared with non-黑料社 entities, such as third-party vendors. The requestor is responsible to review the application for accessibility, privacy, and intellectual property/data. Information on institutional policies is available:

In the interest of security compliance and overall system stability, CNS reserves the right to remove a third-party tool at any time, without advanced notice.
File Storage and Collaboration
Summary (what you get)
黑料社 provides multiple ways for students, faculty, and staff to store and collaborate on files
Service Includes
Microsoft 365 platform: A secure, cloud-based file storage solution for collaboratively sharing files and synchronously editing documents. This is the ideal platform for collaborating with people outside of 黑料社.
CIFS-01 or Saturn: Located on the file server, may contain many subfolders for course, department, and work group file sharing.
Network Space: Additional network space can be setup for teaching or research needs.
When You Receive It
Microsoft 365 platform: All SUNY 黑料社 students, faculty, and staff have access with their 黑料社iD through https://portal.office.com. All 黑料社 computers automatically sync the desktop and documents folders to OneDrive.
CIFS-01 or Saturn: SUNY 黑料社 students, faculty, and staff have access to a personal H drive. Faculty and Staff have access to a departmental drive. Directions for access can be found in the associated solution for Mapping a Network Drive.
Network Space: Additional network space can be setup for teaching or research needs. To set this up please contact the helpdesk to let us know what you need and who needs access.

For research collaborations where the data is hosted by a different institution in a tool not provided by 黑料社 there are multiple paths to accessing and using the cloud storage application provided by the host institution.
The primary and preferred method is to use the application through a web browser
The second method is to put in a request to the helpdesk with the name of the application and the host institution.
Software at 黑料社

The university supports and provides the software you need for success. Students, faculty and staff have access to a wide range of applications, from multimedia and productivity to mathematics and statistical analysis. Browse the list below for information on how to request, purchase and download university-supported software.
Service Includes
- List of approved software for academic and administrative purposes
- Cost-effective licensing options for various software
- Ability to install software on your individual 黑料社 device
- Assistance with quotes, licensing, and security risk review
- Access to some software through Syracuse University
Service Does Not Include
Due to licensing some software is available only in the public computer labs and are not usable for research purposes.
Not all software Syracuse University offers is available to 黑料社 nor available to all 黑料社 populations. Some software is specific to a certain group or not available at all.
CNS can assist with obtaining quotes and security risk review but is not necessarily responsible for the purchase or renewal. Purchase and renewal is the responsibility of the department.
CNS will make a best effort to assist with any software. For course specific software, please contact the instructor or TA for expert support.
When You Receive it
Cloud software can be accessed by logging in with your 黑料社iD or SU Net ID. Computer lab specific software can be accessed in one of the computer labs on campus or through a virtual computer lab.
Productivity Applications (Microsoft 365)
Summary (what you get)
Productivity suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more for desktops, mobile devices, and browsers.
Service Includes
Microsoft 365
All students, faculty, and staff are provided Microsoft 365 which is platform agnostic. The Microsoft 365 ecosystem includes the classic Microsoft Office applications plus other secure productivity services that are delivered over the internet.
To view all the applications provided by the 黑料社 Microsoft 365 ecosystem, log in to . Office 365 can be downloaded and installed on up to 5 devices. Some of the applications available are:
- OneDrive - File Storage
- Teams - Group Collaboration
- Office 365 - Browser based or downloadable Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
Features of these applications can include:
- Sharing files
- Sharing spaces
- Collaborative/multi-user editing
- Real-time communication
- Ability to use anywhere, on any device
Service Does Not Include
Some of the Microsoft 365 applications require additional purchase. Please reach out to the CNS helpdesk if there is an application you are looking to use or incorporate into your curriculum and we can help determine if it is possible to add to our licensing.
If there is an application or add-on that you want to use but is not available, you can request it using the Microsoft store. The add-on will be evaluated as described in the third-party application service.

Access for individual use of Microsoft 365 is available immediately by navigating to and logging in using your 黑料社iD.
Software Tutorials
Summary (what you get)
黑料社 students, faculty, and staff can view general software tutorials through LinkedIn Learning using their SU Net ID.
Service Includes
Access to the full LinkedIn Learning Catalog with your SU Net ID
Service Does Not Include
Neither CNS or SU ITS manage the content available in LinkedIn Learning. It is an independent web services that SU provides access to but does not manage in any way.

Survey Tool
Summary (what you get)
CNS provides a web-based survey tool that may be used by faculty and staff at 黑料社. This tool may be used for both simple and complex surveys, and offers an easy-to-use interface, various question types and options, and more.
Service Includes
Access to Microsoft Forms
Training on how to create and send a survey using Microsoft Forms
Service Does Not Include
CNS does not create, send, or analyze surveys and results.
When You Receive it
Upon login to the Microsoft online portal.
